Sealing testing means that products have sealing performance requirements and corresponding testing requirements, among which waterproof performance is one type of sealing performance. Two representative industries that have requirements for external sealing performance include sealing and packaging products. Another situation is like the cabinet part of a speaker, which must have certain sealing requirements, otherwise it will affect the sound quality. Of course, the sealing test cannot be equated with the waterproof test, because the waterproof test laboratory has clear regulations, including pressure, time, and there is water throughout the process.

Of course, IP protection is explicitly stipulated, with water pressure, time, and rigid requirements. For example, the IPX7 protection level has laboratory requirements: 1 meter underwater, half an hour of immersion time, and no water entering the product structure when the product is opened can reach the IPX7 waterproof level. IP waterproof levels can be divided into levels 1-8. The testing conditions of each level are different, and the difficulty of protection gradually increases.
There are many products that are exposed to rain and water in the use environment, such as outdoor street lights, outdoor security products, vehicle cameras, car lights, etc., which are all exposed to rain in the use environment. There are also many products that are exposed to water in the use environment, such as bracelets for diving, cameras, pumping motors for swimming pools, electric products for bathing, etc.
Of course, as the competition in the various electronic consumer goods markets becomes more and more intense, the functions and performance of products that do not originally require waterproofing also have waterproof requirements, such as mobile phones, audio products, etc. Of course, this is also a good phenomenon. So how can traditional IP waterproofing experiments be completed?
The traditional testing method is soaking in water (direct soaking in water): water depth and soaking time are used to correspond to various levels of IP waterproof testing.Observe whether there is water inside the product as the criterion.
The disadvantages are:
- A: Once water enters electronic products, it may cause irreparable damage to the components.
- B is inefficient and requires repeated disassembly, assembly, and re-verification.
- C is not suitable for use in production lines for full inspection.
- D relies heavily on human judgment and lacks rigor!!

Traditional detection method (indirect water immersion): pass a certain pressure of gas into the sealed workpiece cavity, sink the workpiece into water (or other liquids), and observe whether there are bubbles overflowing.Or apply soapy water on the surface of the workpiece and observe whether bubbles are formed.(The test efficiency of this method is not high. Human factors have a great impact on the test results. There is no accuracy at all. The data cannot be quantified and it is inconvenient to track and determine the cause. It causes secondary pollution to the product and requires drying and wiping. The only advantage is that it can find the leak point. This method is quite backward.) In many cases, very small bubbles are not easily detected by the naked eye.There is leakage but does not necessarily produce bubbles when there is a slight leakage:
- A. Surface tension of water– Water molecules may block leaks
- B. In the case of extremely small leakage, gas molecules can be integrated into the water - no bubbles are generated.
- C. Extremely dependent on human judgment and lacks rigor!!

These are traditional detection methods, which are also the closest to IP waterproof laboratory conditions. Their advantage is that the results are scientific, but their disadvantages are too many.
