The protection level of the national standard is usually designed to protect against water depths of several meters. It is generally called IP waterproof level and IP dustproof level. However, in the actual production process, water is often used for testing. The efficiency is very low, causing damage to the product. Internationally, IP protection levels are generally divided into the following categories:

1: IPX level

The leakage value of the air tightness tester reflects the moisture-proof and dust-proof capabilities of the instrument. Especially for outdoor activities, where it is inevitable to be in harsh environments with high humidity or dust and sand, the sealing and waterproof capabilities of the instrument are crucial to ensuring the safe operation and lifespan of the instrument.To this end, standards are developed internationally.In order to adapt to this, the Japanese Industrial Standards divide the waterproof protection of electronic instruments into 10 levels, represented by IPX1, IPX2... respectively.

Protection level type meaning.

no protection

IPX1, anti-drip type, vertical falling water droplets have no harmful effects

IPX2, drip-proof type II, water droplets falling within the vertical direction will have no harmful effects

IPX3, rainproof and no harmful effects of rainfall within 60 degrees from the vertical direction

IPX4, splash-proof, no harmful effects from water splashing from any direction

IPX5, anti-spray type, can be directly sprayed by water from any direction without harmful effects.

IPX6, water-resistant type, even if water is directly sprayed from any direction, it will not enter the interior.

IPX7, submersion-proof type will not enter the interior even if it is immersed in water under specified conditions.

IPX8, water type can still be used even if it is immersed in water under a certain pressure for a long time.

IPX9, moisture-proof type can be used in moisture with a relative humidity of less than 90%

IPxx rating

The international industrial standard waterproof level is close to the Japanese industrial standard waterproof level, with a total of 9 levels ranging from 0 to 8. The level also stipulates dust protection.

Dustproof and waterproof

The protection level adopts the ×× level standard recommended by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The IP level is different in different installation locations.Please refer to the instructions below for details.In the grade standard, "××" is a two-digit number, the first digit indicates the level of protection against solids, and the second digit indicates the level of protection against liquids.There are 7 levels of solid protection, represented by 0-6 respectively; there are 9 levels of liquid protection.

3 Water or rain from a 60-degree corner has no effect on the housing

4. Liquid spilled onto the case from any direction will have no harmful effects.

5. Rinse with water without any harm.

6 Can be used in ship cabin environments

7 Can withstand water immersion in a short period of time (1m>)

8. Immersed in water for a long time under certain pressure.

Test method

For example: IP65 protection level means that the product can completely prevent dust from entering and can be washed with water without any harm.

IPx1

Method name: Vertical drip test

Test equipment: dripping test device

Sample placement: Place the sample in the normal working position on a rotating sample stage at 1r/min. The distance from the top of the sample to the dripping port shall not be greater than 200mm.

Test conditions: dripping volume is 10.5 mL/min

Duration: 10 minutes

IPx2

Method name: Tilt 15° drip test

Test equipment: dripping test device

Sample placement: Make one surface of the sample form an angle of 15° with the vertical line, and the distance from the top of the sample to the drip port shall not be greater than 200mm.After each test of one side, switch to another side, a total of four times.

Test conditions: dripping volume is 30.5 mL/min

Duration: 4×2.5 min (10 min in total)

IPx3

Method name: Water spray test

Test method:

aOscillating tube water spray test

Test equipment: Swing tube type water splash test device

Sample placement: Select a swing tube with an appropriate radius so that the height of the sample table is at the diameter of the swing tube. Place the sample on the sample stage so that the distance from the top to the sample water nozzle is no more than 200mm and the sample stage does not rotate.

Test conditions: The water flow rate is calculated based on the number of spray holes in the swing pipe. Each hole is 0.07 L/min. When water is sprayed, the water spray holes in the 60° arc segments on both sides of the midpoint of the swing pipe are sprayed towards the sample.The tested sample is placed in the center of the semicircle of the pendulum tube.The swing tube swings 60° on each side of the vertical line, for a total of 120°.Each swing (2×120°) about 4s

Test time: continuous water spraying for 10 minutes

bSprinkler type water test

Test equipment: handheld water splash test device

Sample placement: Make the parallel distance from the top of the test to the water nozzle of the handheld nozzle between 300mm and 500mm

Test conditions: A baffle with a counterweight should be installed during the test, and the water flow rate is 10 L/min.

Test time: Calculated based on the surface area of ​​the shell of the sample being tested, 1 minute per square meter (excluding installation area), minimum 5 minutes

IPx4

Method name: splash water test

Test method:

a.Oscillating tube splash test

Test equipment and specimen placement: are the same as the above IPX 3 paragraph a;

Test conditions: Except for the following conditions, they are the same as the above-mentioned IPX 3 paragraph a; the water spray area is the water spray from the water spray holes in the 90° arc sections on both sides of the midpoint of the swing pipe to the sample.The tested sample is placed in the center of the semicircle of the pendulum tube.The swing tube swings 180° on both sides of the vertical line, for a total of about 360°.Each swing (2×360°) about 12s

Test time: The same as the above IPX 3 paragraph a (i.e. 10 minutes).

b.Nozzle splash test

Test equipment and specimen placement: are the same as those in paragraph b of IPX 3 above;

Test conditions: Remove the baffle with a counterweight installed on the equipment, and the rest are the same as the above IPX 3 paragraph b;

Test time: The same as paragraph b of IPX 3 above, that is, calculated based on the surface area of ​​the shell of the sample being tested, 1 minute per square meter (excluding installation area) and at least 5 minutes

IPx5

Method name: Water spray test

Test equipment: The inner diameter of the water outlet of the nozzle is 6.3mm

Test conditions: Make the distance between the test sample and the water spout 2.5m ~ 3m, and the water flow rate be 12.5 L/min (750 L/h)

Test time: Calculated based on the surface area of ​​the shell of the sample being tested, 1 minute per square meter (excluding installation area), at least 3 minutes

IPx6

Method name: Strong water spray test;

Test equipment: The inner diameter of the water outlet of the nozzle is 12.5 mm

Test conditions: Make the distance between the test sample and the water spout 2.5m ~ 3m, and the water flow rate be 100 L/min (6000 L/h)

Test time: Calculated based on the surface area of ​​the shell of the sample being tested, 1 minute per square meter (excluding installation area), at least 3 minutes

IPx7

Method name: Short-time immersion test

Test equipment and test conditions: immersion box.The size should be such that after the sample is placed in the immersion box, the distance from the bottom of the sample to the water surface is at least 1m.The distance from the top of the specimen to the water surface is at least 0.15m

Test time: 30 minutes

IPx8

Method name: Continuous diving test;

Test equipment test conditions and test time: It is agreed between the supply and demand (buyer and seller) parties, and the severity should be higher than IPX 7.

Note: In addition, many outdoor electronic products also emphasize floating capabilities.

Domestic standards

QB/T 1898

This standard applies to watches marked "waterproof" with or without an additional overpressure mark. It does not apply to diving watches.Meaning: All watches marked "waterproof", regardless of whether there is an additional overpressure mark, in addition to being waterproof in daily life, can also be worn for swimming in a short period of time and under conditions of changes in water pressure and water temperature. However, regardless of whether there is an additional overpressure mark, they cannot be used for diving.The technical requirements and test methods are as follows:

① Air pressure resistance performance: Place the watch in air with an air pressure 2×105 Pa (2bar) higher than the normal atmospheric pressure, and measure the air leakage rate entering the watch case (use a special instrument to detect it).Air leakage flow rate ≤50 micrograms/minute.

② Water pressure resistance: Immerse the watch in a container filled with water, and apply a pressure value that is the same as the overpressure mark within 1 minute. If the watch does not have an overpressure mark, the pressure value is 2×105 Pa (2bar), and maintain it for 10 minutes. Then, the pressure should be reduced to the ambient pressure within 1 minute.During the condensation test, no condensation should appear on the inner surface of the watch glass.

③ Waterproof performance with a water immersion depth of 10 cm. Immerse the watch in water with a depth of 10±2 cm and keep it for 1 hour.Then do a condensation test, and no condensation should appear on the inner surface of the watch glass.

④ Mechanical pressure resistance of operating parts: Immerse the watch in water with a depth of 10 ± 2 cm, apply a force of 5 Newtons in the direction perpendicular to the axis of the crown or button, and maintain it for 5 minutes.Then do a condensation test, and no condensation should appear on the inner surface of the watch glass.

⑤ Water temperature change resistance: Immerse the watch in water of different temperatures with a depth of 10 cm in sequence: 40°C water for 5 minutes; 20°C water for 5 minutes; 40°C water for 5 minutes (the watch should not be taken out of the water and re-immersed in another water temperature for more than 1 minute).Then do a condensation test, and no condensation should appear on the inner surface of the watch glass.

Standard description

1. This standard is equivalent to the international standard ISO 2281 "Timepieces - Waterproof Watches" (1990 edition).

2. There are two options for the watch waterproof performance test, you can choose either one.A watch can only be called a waterproof watch after it passes all tests of one of the options.The first option: ①, ③, ④, ⑤; the second option: ②, ③, ④, ⑤.

3. The waterproof performance of various types of waterproof watches is not classified into grades.In addition to being marked with the term "waterproof", watches can also use pressure (in Pa) as an overpressure mark (at least 2×105 Pa), or the depth of water (at least 20 meters). When marked with depth, it should not be regarded as the diving depth, but it is equivalent to the pressure value corresponding to the depth.

IPX-7 can be submerged under 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
