As we all know, in order to ensure safe use, most wire connectors must undergo sealing testing.For example: electrical connectors, electrical wire connectors, automotive connectors, automotive wire connectors, etc.However, different wire connectors also have different detection methods, and traditional detection methods cannot meet the detection needs of different types of connectors.Faced with different testing needs, Hirays Technology’s new wire connector waterproof tester has also emerged.
What needs to be tested this time is an ordinary wire connector. It is small in size and irregular in shape. In order to test its tightness and waterproofness, we also need to measure it according to its shape, diameter, size and the range to be tested.We understand that the metal end of this wire has relatively many processes, and customers need to check multiple seals at the metal end.Hirays analyzes the inspection strategy with the customer, considering that there may also be air leakage in the middle part of the connector, and the customer needs the inspection fixture to play a universal role.We have helped our customers develop the following testing plans.This detection method detects both ends of the wire connector at the same time, which can shorten the test time and improve the production effect. The detection details are shown in the figure below.
1. Difficulties in detecting wire connectors
(1) The wire connector is small in size and irregular in shape, and cannot be well fixed on the testing mold;
(2) The wires at both ends of the wire connector are soft and have a high degree of folding, which can easily lead to air leakage during closure detection;
(3) Both ends of the connector are not closed, making it difficult to seal. Gas leakage from the other end may easily occur during the testing process, resulting in inaccurate sealing test results.

2. Faced with the above difficulties, how to conduct sealing testing on the characteristics of wires?
Before testing, Hirays Technology will customize a mold tooling according to the shape of the wire connector. In order to better fix the two ends of the connector, according to the shape, diameter, size, and place to be tested of the wire, there are special grooves on the mold that can better fix the wire connectors at both ends.

Put the wire connector into the tooling mold and connect it to our instrument. There is a valve island, gas tank and other components inside the instrument as well as the program we have set. After the connection is made, press the start button when testing the wire.
During testing, the instrument inflates the mold.If the wire connector is not sealed and air leakage occurs, the leakage value displayed in the instrument will become larger and larger, and the pressure value will decrease at the same time.At this time, it can be determined whether the wire connector is leaking, and the instrument test result will also show NG, which means the air tightness test failed.If the tested wire connector does not leak, the gas in the tooling mold will be in a constant state after inflation. The pressure value and leakage value displayed on the instrument are also stable. The instrument test result will display OK, indicating that the air tightness test has passed.
